Since she was a small girl, Hope Gardiner carried a crystalline vision of the life she wished to have. First and foremost, she wanted to get married. She wanted true love. And she wanted her husband to be wealthy, handsome, and a part of the same social elite of which she was a part. At nineteen, she became engaged to the eligible and handsome Theodore Douglas. He seemed to be her Prince Charming, but things did not turn out as she'd hoped when Theo suddenly broke off the engagement.

Giving up her dream of married life with Theo wasn't easy, but Hope did not become embittered about love or life. She left her family's home in New England at twenty-six to live a single and independent witch's life in Chicago. She has resided there for the last eight years, where she runs her own small art gallery and enjoys a life of independence and accomplishment.

At thirty-four, as she watches more and more of her friends marry and start families, she is beginning to fear becoming an "old maid," yet remains hopeful, and maintains an optimistic outlook on love and romance in spite of the pressures of her family and the challenges and obstacles the modern wizarding world.

Well-bred, she walks through life with a perfect sense of decorum--and a lot of idealism. She continues to dream that one day she will live the life she always imagined.
